How Do I Apply?
Application Process
There are three steps in the application process:
- The deadline for the 2008 Frye Leadership Institute nominations was November 1, 2007, and nominations will no longer be accepted. If you have any questions, please contact fryeleadership@clir.org.
- If you are nominated, the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) will contact you and ask you to apply online.
- Applicants must submit the following information by December 3, 2007 using the online application form:
- Curriculum Vitae (five-page maximum)
- Statement of Purpose (1,000 words maximum)
Your statement should address your interest in leading information services in higher education, and how you expect the Frye Leadership Institute to help you achieve your goals. Thinking about the three- to five-year potential for information technology to transform higher education, what role(s) would you like to play?
- Practicum Prospectus (1,000 words maximum)
Participation in the Frye Leadership Institute requires a mutual commitment of the participant and the home campus. A crucial component of the Institute is a year-long practicum project, which will provide you with a laboratory for exploring and, possibly, resolving some of the issues identified in the residential program. Ideally, your practicum project will cross the boundaries of several organizational units and require collaborative action for success. Institutional support in the form of release time, reassignment, or other resources should be described. You will have time, during the Institute itself, to refine the project description.
- Scholarship Statement of Need (500 words maximum)
There are a limited number of scholarships available. To be considered, applicants must submit a statement of need as part of their application.
Please Note:
- You must be nominated by a senior institutional officer and have been contacted by CLIR before you may submit an application.
- The application deadline is December 3, 2007.
- CLIR will contact nominees if their application has not been received by the deadline.
- Applicants will be notified of their acceptance status no later than February 15, 2008.
- A nonrefundable deposit of $2,000 is due upon acceptance. The remainder must be paid by May 15, 2008. Read more about cost and scholarships.
Selection Process
A selection committee made up of representatives from CLIR, EDUCAUSE, and Emory University reviews each application in January. The committee bases its selection on three criteria:
- The applicant's leadership qualities.
- The applicant's statement of purpose.
- The applicant's proposed practicum project. Applicants are asked to describe a yearlong project they will undertake after the two-week residential portion of the Frye Institute. Although nearly every participant modifies or changes completely the proposal by the end of the two weeks, the selection committee looks for evidence of innovation and collaborative work in the practicum proposal.
In addition, the selection committee seeks to create a participant group with diverse experience, background, and perspectives.
